CONCORD, N.C. — The matriarch of a longtime funeral home business suddenly passed away and the community is remembering her service.
Joyce King was known for her signature fiery red hair and was described as a ball of energy.
She carried on her family’s legacy, which started in the 1930s.
King operated the King Funeral Home of Concord and Pageland while helping with food and clothing drives and sponsoring vaccine clinics.
“When people came in and just really didn’t have enough to bury, she always buried people whether they had money or not,” said William King, her son. “I mean, that was her big thing that if you took the time to call us, you were going to have a service no matter how much you spent.”
Relatives say King suffered a cerebral bleed and died on Feb. 22, 2023.
She was 76 years old.
A celebration of life this weekend is open to the public.
