Mack Maine (Full name: Jermaine Anthony Preyan) is an American rapper and songwriter from New Orleans, Louisiana.
In 2003, he placed 16th out of a thousand contestants in a freestyle battle hosted by MTV; this, combined with a backstage performance at the 2004 BET Awards with Cassidy, led him to become a founding member of Young Money Entertainment with Lil Wayne in 2005.
In 2008, Mack Maine appeared on the official remix of Lil Wayne’s third single from Tha Carter III, “Got Money,” and performed the song with Wayne on Saturday Night Live on September 14. At the 2008 Ozone Awards, he won the “Patiently Waiting: Louisiana” award.

Rapper Mack Maine feels grateful to be alive after learning his mother was originally scheduled to have an abortion.
The Young Money Entertainment president has released a new track called Celebrate, in which he details his mom Mary’s last-minute decision to carry her son to full term.
Explaining the track, which contains the line “They said I was s’posed to die as a fetus,” he tells MTV’s RapFix Live, “My mom was about to abort me. She was about to have an abortion. She was lying on the (operating) table and she changed her life at that moment… She got saved and became a Christian.”
In the deeply-personal tune, Maine, real name Jermaine Preyan, also discusses the sadness he felt after the death of his grandmother, rapping, “Never seen my pops cry ’til I seen my Grams died/ And I’m here to tell him that I miss my Grams too/ And I wish I could hug her for mothers day too/ And I feel the same way that you do/ But we gotta still move on so she can just smile down on us (sic).”
Opening up about that difficult time in his life, he adds, “It really affected my dad a lot. I lost him for a year behind that. My dad, he turned to drugs… It really took a toll on him.”

As surprised as fans were to hear reports about Lil Wayne’s condition following two seizures, perhaps no one as surprised as Wayne himself.
Young Money president Mack Maine explained how hearing news about Wayne’s health actually affect Weezy.
“I was actually sitting right next to him, honestly, when it happened, and his mom was in the other room, and his face dropped,” said Maine on MTV’s “RapFix Live.” “I just saw it in his face, like, ‘I can’t believe that.’ “
While Mack Maine, Birdman and others reported that Wayne was doing well, TMZ reported that Wayne was in dire straits, even being prepped for his last rites.
“A lot of blogs and stuff put out some foolishness, but that wasn’t true,” added Mack. “He has four kids. Imagine his daughter hearing that somewhere in school or something like that, so he wasn’t too happy about that.”
Now, Mack Maine says Wayne is happy and safe. “He’s blessed, he’s up, he’s in good spirits, and we’d like to thank all the fans for the prayers. A lot of people reached out and showed love, but Wayne’s at home, he’s relaxing. He’s actually been in good health for a minute. They just wanted to run a few tests on him, that’s why they kept him longer than expected, but he’s been good.”
